The City of Utica is Established
May 6, 1925
F.A. Scharf is Licensed
Frank Scharf becomes a licensed plumber at the age of 30 and establishes F.A. Scharf Plumbing and Heating from his residence on 817 Wager St in Utica NY.
1927
A Wedding
Frank Scharf marries Agnes Bockhardt
1929
Move to Schuyler St
F.A. Scharf Plumbing and Heating moves business to Schuyler Street, where they remain in business throughout the Great Depression and WWII
1933
Prohibition Ends
Utica Club is the first beer sold after Prohibition
1934
Scharf’s Dept Store
Frank and Agnes own and operate Scharf’s Dept Store on Saratoga Street as well as the Plumbing business
1960-1980
The Roger Scharf Orchestra
Frank and Agnes’s eldest son Roger created The Roger Scharf Orchestra becoming Utica’s number-one dance band, playing for JFK when he visited The Hotel Utica.
1965
Scharf brothers take over

Office Moves
Larry and Kathleen Scharf continue and expand Scharf Plumbing and Heating, moving their place of business to Chenango Road.
2016
Another Retirement
Larry and Kathleen Scharf retire from the business.
Present Day
The 3rd Generation
After a century, the Scharf family’s plumbing business endures. Today, Frank Scharf II and his son Adam continue the family legacy with Scharf Plumbing and Drain.
